I think this is why I have been loathe to join any blogging groups. I am a mom, but I am definitely NOT a mommy blogger. I am a Christian, but I am not an authority on the Bible or church matters so I wouldn't call my blog a Christian blog. I am a knitter, but I don't complete enough projects to call my blog a knitting blog. I know a little bit about a lot of subjects so I barely fit into any group that I am technically a part of.

As for getting out of your comfort zone, brava! It's been over 20 years since I have had to go anywhere by myself. I don't drive and there is no public transit in my area. If I had to travel on a bus by myself now, I think I would have a panic attack :-).

It's really too bad comments like that are being said out loud in front of the child. Sometimes people say things that just fly out of their mouths and have no idea the effect it has.

It is not isolated and I am sure it happens in a lot of homes.

The gift of family and friends is what is most important. The gift of ones life, health and happiness is most important. It's unfortunate that people sometimes have that realization when faced with an unfortunate circumstance.

I hope the little girl had fun anyway. You'd be suprised sometimes they just tune things out and sometimes they are true sponges and absorb everything.

Y'know, this is exactly how my husband's side of the family is. It's like "keeping up with the Joneses even if it puts you in the poorhouse." I also don't like being dictated to as to how much I should be giving someone.

I do what I can - what I can afford, and what I feel the occasion deserves. Hubby's view is skewed because they kept up appearances and "paybacks" like you mentioned. (Oh we gave their kids $200 when they got married and our kids only got $50? Shame on them!)

It's so not me. We invite people we love, because we love them. Not for what they can give us.

I actually think I'm more of a wannabe geek (I only understand about 2/3 of the XKCD comics, but Lord I want to understand them all!).

You seem to have figured out all on your own why introverted nerds have jumped all over social media. Writing is so much easier than talking. But if we can develop relationships with people online first, it makes it much easier to then talk to them in person.

It's pretty funny - I'm now the social butterfly with my online friends. But to be honest, I still get butterflies before having to dive into a room full of people I don't know.

I know how your son feels. I was never a fight starter, but I was the one everyone loved to hit because I didn't know how to hit back. The one time my mom was called to be scolded she gave them the corrected POV and they corrected their view of me, and that was not bad for about a week. Problem was that at that point my homeroom teacher (מחנכת) decided to raise the issue in class, and did it in an odd sneaky way in cahoots with the literature teacher, steering a conversation about "Lord of the Flies" and comparing me to you-know-who and how the kids are picking on me. that was the absolute worst way of reacting to the issue, and that pretty much made me give up on the school system. However that was in the 8th grade, and I sincerely hope that our stories are not the same, and that 22 years after my ugly incident, maybe teachers of elementary school will know better, if they are made aware of what the real situation is, and not just a singular incident report.

Woooo Rach! Good job sticking up for yourself. The school absolutely needs to do its part to deal with things that are happening on its campus, and make sure there are consequences there beyond a free day at home. Unfortunately, in my experience it seems that many of the Israeli parents here in LA tend to assume the school will take care of raising and disciplining their child and that they don't have to do much themselves. (not that this applies to you!) Not good when the kids don't get discipline at home or school (preferably it would be both!).

Don't blame hormones on this. You have legitimate grievances. Kol hakavod for not letting the principal off the hook. I bet it felt good. :-)

I feel ya. My husband was going to treat me to a sewing machine with part of our stimulus check. I don't even want a fancy-schmancy Bernina; I have my eye on a beginner's model that I found for $150. However, I've been out of work for almost a year so the full amount needed to go towards the mortgage. Bummer.
